IC Information
Canon: Honkai Star Rail
Character: Aventurine
Canon point: Right where patch 2.1 ends! ie. Wandering the Nihility void ™ for who knows how long!
Canon intensity: Definitely teen to adult rating, I think. There’s some pretty intense content in (Kakavasha’s) Aventurine’s backstory, none of which is graphic but very much implied. These intense things include: being branded with a serial number on his neck, being enslaved (vague on what that slavery entailed…), off screen genocide of his people (he’s likely the last survivor of the Avgin clan), fantasy racism, murder, suicidal ideation?? Yeah. Pretty intense. But he stays silly…
The game talks about these things but isn’t super graphic in showing them.
World information: Oh gosh. Ok so. Aventurine is from a very sci-fi setting (holographic screens, space ships, AI, etc.), but works with a company that gives him access to many different worlds and even galaxies. He’s essentially an intergalactic debt collector/gambler, and deals with different cultures and settings assumedly on the regular. Kinda like Star Trek but more capitalist, that’s his environment usually, lmao.
There are god-like beings called Aeons. They have varying involvement with their domains. Not much is known about them otherwise?? Like alot of them are said to have used to be mortal?? Ehhh, alot of mysteries there. But there sure are Aeons! They seem to grant power to those who walk their paths and share their ideals. Some people might walk so close they become Emenators, which is like…being granted power but MORE. Aventurine’s boss, Diamond is one of these Emanators. The IPC is constructed around the Aeon of Preservation that like. It’s this big rock god that started building a wall. We’re. Not sure what for. But some guys made a whole corporation around it, while Quipoth (Preservation Aeon) doesn’t seem to care.
Character biofacts:
Age: I’d say Aventurine is in his mid to late 20s? Let’s say like, roughly, 27 years old.
Gender: male
Species: He’s Sigonian but this doesn’t seem to differentiate him from “typical” humans.
Height: gonna put him at 5 feet even. Short (malnourished) king.
About the character: (under the read more, it got long...)
Aventurine will introduce himself as the senior manager of the Strategic Investment Department of the IPC, and one of the Ten Stonehearts. It’s a big title and a high position in the corporation that sweeps the cosmos with its reach. He will usually do this introduction with a flourish and a smile, a smile that never seems to leave his face. Flashily dressed and carefully composed, this is the persona he presents to the IPC’s would-be clients and enemies alike.
Of course he wasn’t always like this. The practiced ease in his actions hide the hardship and tragedy it took to get there; but you can see it in the tattoo on his neck, which if you inspect it closer, turns out to be a serial number branded on his neck. You can see it in his eyes, how the smiles never seem to reach them, and how light never seems to shine in them. How, if you know your planetary history, the unique colors in those eyes are quite possibly the last of their kind.
Aventurine was once called Kakavasha, a child born on the day of Kakava (his namesake), which is usually a joyful day in Avgin culture. It rained upon his birth, which signified luck and new life for the desert planet of Sigonia-IV. Kakavasha was deemed a child of blessing from the day he was born, smiled upon by the Avgin Mother Goddess, Gaiathra Triclops.
Life was hard for Kakavasha’s family, as Sigonia-IV is not a planet well suited for living. It’s largely a desert climate, prone to being hit by space debris and the like due to its very thin atmosphere. Kakavasha’s father died in quicksand before he was born, his mother died when he was very young, and his older sister died when he was about eight years old, killed by an opposing tribe, the Katicans. His family left him with small objects to remember them by: a lucky charm, a necklace, a shirt. To this day, that’s all he has left of them. This mass genocide of his people resulted in 6,728 deaths and 3,452 missing persons, all of which happened on Kakava, a day meant to be celebrated and happy.
Kakavasha is likely the only survivor of this genocide. This could be considered lucky, but he likely considers it anything but.
He was taken as a slave soon after, bought for his “good luck” and branded on his neck with a “commodity code”. Kakavasha, called “Number 35” by this point, was forced to fight for his survival against other purchased slaves. He tried to bet on his life–likely a grasp for some sort of control over the situation–but was not taken seriously by his master. So with the shackles around his wrists and neck, he defeated his opponents–likely fellow slaves also just trying to survive– and went on to kill his master as well.
This series of events was understandably traumatizing for Kakavasha, and he’s very unwilling to talk about it with others, or even think about it. His time as a slave likely built up his very “all or nothing” mentality, and enforced that bets could be used in exchange for lives. As someone who had nothing, his life is all he had to bet on. And he came out a winner, hands slick with blood, chains heavy around his wrists.
How lucky.
At some point the Interastral Peace Corporation (IPC) worked to colonize Sigonia-IV, establishing it as a sovereign nation. The company did little to help the Avgins against the Katicans, however. Only now did they intervene, apprehending Kakavasha for killing his master. Instead of representing himself in a doomed trial (there is great prejudice against Sigonians, and his chances of winning that trial were incredibly slim), he bet on himself to be “entertaining” and “profitable” enough to be employed by the IPC instead. Jade found him amusing, and agreed.
Employed by the IPC, he was given access to wealth, status, and power. Under a new name, Aventurine worked his way through the ranks to become a Stoneheart of the IPC. He made himself profitable and useful so he could continue to survive everything life threw at him.
He was employed in word only; it was only another form of slavery. It’s just a bigger cage to be locked in.
So Aventurine made deals, turning impossible scenarios into possible ones with his incredible luck. He loved the risk and gambled freely with his life and the money the IPC sponsored him with. His gambling sometimes consisted of just games of poker and such, but could also be seen in interactions with others, like when he held a gun to his chest upon meeting Dr. Ratio. He smiles as he plays roulette with his life, hiding how he clutches his chips with shaking hands behind his back.
Aventurine is bold, flashy, and flippant to the outside viewer. However, he has deep seated trauma and desperation that drives his actions and shapes all his relationships with others. He likely has major survivor’s guilt, as he apparently pulled some scams to instigate a couple excavations on Sigonia-IV, most likely a desperate search for any remains of his people. Despite his apparent materialistic nature, he has a sentimental streak, as he refused to sell the jewelry from his sister and mother, even if doing so would have made his young life much easier.
Aventurine is nervous, tired, reckless, and deeply lonely. His relationships all seem to be business related, and he seems to think friends are people meant to be used, and that he should be used in turn. Even with Dr. Veritas Ratio, quite possibly his closest friend, there is a distance to that relationship due to business and personal conflict (and horrible communication skills). Still, he acts friendly enough, and tends to throw money at people he wants to get closer with (likely the only affection he knows how to show) like the Trailblazer.
These deep seated issues culminated into some alarmingly suicidal behavior, especially in the resolution of his mission in Penacony. He took on a painful aeon powered curse/death sentence from Sunday (one of the leaders of Penacony) to further his plans. He set up a “grand death” for himself in order to damage Penacony enough for the IPC to take, breaking his Cornerstone in the process.
He wanted Acheron to draw her blade on him, and she did. He was “killed”. And that sent him to the Nihility Void with her, where they discussed life and death at length. He read a note Ratio gave him, which held a wish for him to live. Aventurine realized it’s not his time to see his family again; they’re not here.
He resolved to continue living, making peace with his younger self in the process. He slipped away from the clutches of the IPC and the influence of the Harmony with Acheron’s help. He’s…essentially free now. What he does with his life is his to choose for the first time in ages.
To him, living is the ultimate gamble. The future is unknown, but that’s just how he likes it. His fate is his own. The meaning of his existence is his own. With his life now firmly in his own hands again, Kakavasha takes his first steps toward a new life.
(I have not played 2.2 as of yet, so it’s unclear what others saw on the outside, and if it appears Aventurine is dead now or not. Either way, this is where I chuck him on The Boat.)
Abilities: First of all, he’s a very good gambler, and probably has a lot of fun card/party tricks he can do. He’s also just exceptionally good at reading people.
I gave him some form of dark vision (60 feet) since it makes sense to me (a lot of creatures who live in the desert can see well in the dark since it’s a better time to do things at night instead of the day when the sun will cook you alive). Also pretty eyes that glow in the dark a little would probably lend into the. Rumors. About Avgin eyes. When it’s real and truly a trait adapted for survival. Also the fun of light not seeming to reflect in Aventurine’s eyes, but they DO glow with their own light in the right settings…
He walks the path of Preservation, and how that works I think is up to the player. How I see it, he has some power to harness other possibilities and outcomes. He’s been, allegedly, blessed by the Avgin Mother Goddess, Gaiathra Triclops, which I think gave him that kind of cursed luck that tends to hurt others around you. For example, being the sole survivor of an otherwise extinct clan of people. Some may call that lucky, while others, tragic.
Anyway, I think the path of Preservation helps him harness that luck and use it in numerous ways, manifesting that energy into objects that are familiar to him such as giant dice or poker chips to drop on enemies. He’s built to shield himself and his team, thus being able to turn the odds again in their favor. He can’t always win this way, but where’s the fun in winning every game anyway?
I imagine his powers get an extreme boost from the cornerstone of stratagems (a sort of?? Conduit? For a speaker for an Aeon/god??) given to him by the IPC. It’s also his namesake, Aventurine. I see it as like a battery, giving him extra power for his imaginary energy use. And now that he broke the cornerstone, and only came to the boat with a bunch of pieces of it…some fun things to come from continuing to use a broken powersource like that :)
Noteworthy items: He’s got shattered remnants of his cornerstone, maybe adding up to half of the actual gem. He also has what looks like a gold amulet on a necklace tucked under his clothes (from his mother and sister), a strip of old cloth meticulously cared for tied under his sleeve on his upper arm (his father’s shirt), and a capsule with an owl motif on it containing a note.
Some of his poker chips have trackers of sorts in them, likely technology from the IPC. Maybe like 10 of these...?
Mixed gender room ok?: Yes, that’s fine!
Player content notes/squicks: I’m a bit nervous about the Growth aligning with my parasite squick. Is it possible to opt out of being infected until I get more of a grasp on how it works? I think I’ll be fine interacting with other characters affected by this, but being affected personally is a bit scary right now. I promise not to abuse possible immunity?
Anything else: Ummm I like hurt/comfort alot and the horror of this setting is super cool! If y’all have other Bad Time ideas in mind for my little guy here, I’d be more than happy to discuss them! :) Like how the shattered cornerstone might affect him (got some plans on that) or being particularly receptive to the Whispers due to being. Very close with death. I’m down for that!
Oh I also really love Dungeons and Dragons, and…like to make character sheets for characters. I made one for Aventurine that I roll some choices on if I can’t decide! The chance of it seems fitting for Aventurine, and it leads to some fun ideas in my opinion. Super nerdy, but it is something I loosely go off of sometimes if that’s alright!
I also wanted to point out that I am aro/ace, and will likely be bringing that kind of flavor to playing Aventurine. He will be flirty with some people sometimes, but it’ll be less of an interest in romance and more just to mess with people or butter them up. I am very interested in exploring friendships with other characters through Aventurine, however! Especially since his concept of friendship is so…messy. I look forward to challenging that for him. :)

His test drive interactions with Sparkle have been interesting lol.
Short, but this test drive thread with Mario is really cute…
